You can want to read Schopenhauer himself without first turning the decision of what to read into a research project. Edition 001 makes that editorial choice, beginning with wanting, status, envy, boredom, solitude, suicide and suffering.
A shorter path into the work—not a shortened version of it.
Desire collects passages on property, reputation, envy and illusion. Solitude tests whether independence and distance can answer that restlessness. Suffering brings the route to the premise beneath both: dissatisfaction belongs to the structure of willing itself.
These are Schopenhauer’s arguments, not motivational summaries. Second Passage Press selected, sequenced and lightly modernized the public-domain Saunders translation while preserving the identity of every source.
Method note
The current interior contains twelve selections in T. Bailey Saunders translations. The source notes identify each work and location. Editorial framing remains concise so the route clarifies the reading without replacing it.
