Old thinkers. An obvious first read.
Great thinkers are easy to hear about and surprisingly hard to enter. We solve the selection problem without replacing the texts with summaries.
The second passage
A canonical text has a first life in the work where it appeared. A Second Passage edition gives selected writing another route: across source works, through a new sequence, toward a question a reader can enter now.
Selection
We begin with the ideas a reader is most likely to care about, then choose substantial passages that build one coherent line of thought. The result is a way into the author, not a substitute for reading him.
Provenance
Every selection stays traceable. Translators, source works and editorial interventions remain explicit because the edition should be auditable as well as readable.
The object
Typography, pacing and physical construction serve sustained reading. We make no material claim before a proof can support it.
